Justin Kings enjoys a unique career within news and speech radio in the UK, with 20 years experience.

After freelance news reading, heard on stations such as Radio Luxembourg and Virgin Radio, his first break came at market leading BRMB in Birmingham where he anchored the evening news programme.

In 1995, Justin landed a dream job at the world famous Capital Radio London, working on the award winning and critically acclaimed nightly magazine ‘The Way It Is’.

He was a News and Entertainment Journalist at Capital, flying to L.A. over consecutive years to cover the Oscars. Justin also coached stars including Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie and Renee Zellweger to become radio presenters for a Sony Radio Academy Award winning programme called ‘Capital Takeover’. He later became Senior Journalist and then News Editor.

In 2001, Justin was promoted to News Editor for the entire Capital Radio Group which involved modernising and overseeing content at stations from Central Scotland down to the South Coast of England. He set up a system by which the best local content was shared across the group via a national news desk, based at Capital.

During this time, Justin was News Editor for the radio show with the single biggest audience in UK history (25 million +). UK Radio Aid was broadcast across all commercial radio in aid of victims of the Asian Tsunami. The journalists' efforts were recognised by an industry special achievement award.

Justin continued as Group News Editor when Capital merged with the GWR Group to become GCap Media – then the UK’s largest commercial radio group with more than 16 million weekly listeners. The UK 's most listened to national, commercial station, Classic FM became part of his portfolio and his work included a revamp of its nightly news programme.

At the end of 2006, Justin accepted a role at the BBC overseeing news and programming at its radio station for London, BBC London 94.9. This was a role in a tri-media newsroom working alongside TV and on-line. In his two years there, he facilitated news training sessions for BBC Local Radio journalists and the BBC’s Safeguarding Trust course.

In all, Justin has won 5 Sony Radio Academy Awards and he has been a judge twice. In 2006, his London news team at GCap beat tough competition to the breaking news award for coverage of the London bombings.

During his time at the BBC, Justin was also Chair of the London Media Emergency Forum – a group of print and broadcast editors who make media policy recommendations to the London Government Department and the Cabinet Office.

As well as his news and speech experience, he has also presented and produced entertainment and music programmes for stations including Capital Radio, BBC London 94.9, Century Radio and Xfm
